Meet Etsy Artist: redladyarts

I'm a sucker for all things Asian - especially Buddha heads, chopsticks, and bamboo. I stumbled across these fantastic chopsticks on Etsy totally by accident and just had to meet the artist...

Sharon K. Shubert was about three years old when "the first urges to create stirred within (her)." Drawn to bright colors and intricate details early on, she taught herself how to work in many mediums including wood burning (aka pyrography), collaging, and sculpting. "If an artistic medium draws my attention I invest some time in learning more about it and trying my hand at it," she says. Her current interests are digital photography and watercolor/ink painting, but she is also an accomplished published author of poetry and short stories. "Silly kid's poetry is a favorite to write," she admits. Inspired by the "natural wonders created by God," she often uses these elements in her work. "The world is sometimes a place of chaos, struggles, and stress. My art is the opposite and I want it to convey the good feelings in life; the simple, spiritual, and the beautiful." Her art is an expression of her soul - "an extension of (her)self." She considers art a "need (like breathing)" rather than a job or a hobby. "It's a big part of my life. I create even when nothing is selling." She advises her fellow artists create what they love, regardless of fads and trends. "The art you create that is truly YOU is what will stand the test of time and be remembered. Do what makes you happy and fulfilled." African safari, anyone?

I love experiencing other cultures and faiths - and when I saw the beautiful copper pendant I knew I had to make a necklace out of it. This one is inspired by tribal Africa and is part of my personal collection. It includes beads of bone, coconut, wood, brass, copper, shell, and various natural elements.

Ever have sellers remorse?

This necklace is one of my creations that sold on Etsy awhile back. It was one of my favorites and I find myself missing it terribly, even though I know it went to a good home -- AND I have a ton of turquoise necklaces already that my husband reminds me I never wear. :-) Sellers remorse, I guess. Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them?

For this necklace I used chunky turquoise nuggets, a teardrop shaped turquoise pendant on a bail, and a wooden Kwan Yin netsuke to bring out the brown in the turquoise matrix.

Meet Etsy Artist: ClaudiasBurningInk

Claudia's new obsessions are wood burning and resin - and she has successfully combined the two in her latest creations: funky purses and frames. Despite having two favorites, she enjoys all mediums. "I'm left handed so I've had trouble finding someone that can teach me pottery, crochet or knitting. I tried glass blowing once, but my glove nearly caught on fire. I don't do art that hurts." She describes her unique style as eclectic. "Its really a combo of differnent styles, depending on the medium and my mood." Right now Etsy is a hobby for Claudia. "I have a M-F 8-5 desk job. I would love to do this full time. I hope when I have kids that I will be able to quit the day job focus on the kids and my art." She strives to get her craft out there and dreams of being discovered by DIY, HGTV, or Martha Stewart some day. "Be sure you read up on Etsy before you set up shop," dshe advises her fellow Etsians. "Be nice and others will be nice to you. Ask questions, there are no stupid questions, or answers."
